Building the Infrastructure Behind Global Media: The Story of Sagos Distro

September 23, 2026•3 min read

For Kofi Mensah, building a successful media business is about more than creating great music and film. It’s about making sure valuable content has the right infrastructure behind it to reach audiences, generate revenue, and continue growing. That idea is at the center of Sagos Distro, a tech-forward music and film production and distribution company operating under the Solid Gold Global umbrella.

Sagos Distro works across a wide range of areas, including catalog and intellectual property acquisition, sync licensing, live events, brand partnerships, influencer marketing, and content-to-commerce. With operations across the United States, Korea, and Africa, the company has grown into a global operation managing and monetizing a catalog of more than 60,000 titles. Alongside that work, its global team is developing new technology tools through the SGG Lab to help improve how media operations are managed.

The idea behind Sagos came from a problem Kofi saw throughout the media industry: valuable intellectual property and content often have the potential to grow but lack the infrastructure, capital, and distribution pathways needed to actually scale. Rather than simply participating in the existing system, Kofi wanted to contribute to the infrastructure by establishing channels that would connect content, producers, capital, and global markets.

Building that kind of company comes with its own challenges. Sagos operates across multiple business areas and continents, which means Kofi has had to build strong legal, financial, and operational systems while continuing to close deals and manage partnerships at the same time. The challenge isn’t simply growing the business; it’s building credibility and infrastructure quickly enough to support that growth.

Kofi approached this by putting the foundation in place early. Operating agreements, term sheets, compliance reviews, and investor materials became priorities rather than things to figure out later. At the same time, he learned that building institutional relationships in media and entertainment often depends on trust. Instead of depending on cold outreach, he has prioritized warm introductions and relationship-building chances.

His experience with the Tech Incubator at Queens College (TIQC) helped shape that approach. The incubator provided an early framework for validating a business model and pressure-testing a pitch. Those skills have continued to influence how Kofi approaches investor conversations and cross-border partnership proposals today.

For entrepreneurs entering the media and entertainment industry, Kofi’s advice is to build the infrastructure before you need it. Legal and financial systems can be easy to overlook when a company is just getting started, but putting them in place early can make it much easier to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. He also emphasizes the importance of relationships. In an industry where partnerships and capital often move through trusted networks, building genuine relationships can be just as important as having a strong pitch.

Sagos Distro is now entering its next stage of growth. Kofi and his team are working to expand the company as an acquisition platform for undervalued, revenue-generating music and film catalogs while increasing institutional investor outreach across the United States, Africa, and Asia. At the same time, they are continuing to build their content-to-commerce and brand partnership infrastructure and develop new technology through the SGG Lab.

The larger vision is to create a platform where valuable media intellectual property has the infrastructure and opportunities it needs to reach its full potential. By bringing together distribution, technology, partnerships, and investment, Kofi is working to build a business that doesn’t just participate in the global media ecosystem, but helps strengthen the infrastructure behind it.
